PhD Candidate in Work-Integrated Learning - Focusing on AI in Teacher Education

Högskolan Väst is seeking a PhD candidate in work-integrated learning for the national graduate school GRAITE: The Graduate School for Artificial Intelligence in Teacher Education.

GRAITE brings together nine Swedish universities and represents an interdisciplinary collaboration focusing on how artificial intelligence reshapes the content, practice, and values of teacher education.

We are looking for someone who:

• Is driven, curious, and possesses excellent analytical skills.
• Wants to work at the intersection of social sciences, informatics, and work-integrated learning.
• Is interested in how AI impacts and challenges education and/or vocational training in various ways.

Examples of questions:

• How AI changes professional practices in education
• How communication between schools, guardians, and students is affected by AI
• Students' actual use of AI in education
• How digital competence and critical AI understanding develop in interaction with technology

The PhD candidate's scientific work in the project

As AI becomes increasingly prominent in society, the need for research that deepens our understanding of how technology reshapes education, work processes, and professional roles grows, along with the organizational opportunities, risks, and consequences that follow from AI. The PhD project aims to contribute to the development of future education through research highly relevant to teacher education and the teaching profession.

Research Environment

As a PhD candidate in work-integrated learning, you will operate in a rich scientific environment with strong ties both nationally through the GRAITE graduate school and locally at Högskolan Väst.

Job Responsibilities

The doctoral education involves, in addition to participation in doctoral courses and other activities, conducting an independent dissertation project. A PhD candidate may, however, work with education and administration to a limited extent.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for the position of PhD candidate, two eligibility requirements must be met: 1) general eligibility and 2) specific eligibility.

Duration and Employment Conditions

A PhD position is to be permanent, but no longer than one year after the doctoral degree has been obtained. The first appointment may last for a maximum of one year.
